Punjab outpaces federal govt in savings rate, report says

Punjab’s combined national and provincial savings rate reached 20.7%, well above the federal government’s overall rate, which remained close to 14%, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday.

According to a report by the government’s Growth Strategy Wing, Punjab’s domestic savings rate climbed to 13.6%, significantly higher than the federal rate, which has declined to 7.1%.

It also highlighted a steady upward trend in the province’s savings performance since 2009, underscoring sustained improvements over more than a decade.

Investment indicators also showed Punjab province ahead of the rest of the country.

The province recorded an investment rate of 16.6%, compared with 14.3% nationally.

Analysts linked the gains in both savings and investment to improved financial discipline and better economic governance within the province.

“The upward trajectory reflects more efficient resource management and a relatively stable policy environment,” the report noted.

The findings come at a time when Pakistan faces broader economic challenges, including low national savings and constrained investment growth.

Punjab’s performance, however, indicated pockets of resilience within the country’s largest province.
