The health department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Friday confirmed first death from the dengue virus in the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

It said a woman had lost her life to the virus in Abbottabad.

Giving further details, the department said 41 cases of dengue were reported from Peshawar and Nowshera each during the last 24 hours, 12 from Buner, 37 from Mardan, and eight from Khyber and Swabi each. “Besides that 12 localities of Peshawar have been declared ‘hotspots’ due to the concentration of a large number of patients of the virus there,” it explained.

Overall, the department added, 178 dengue cases were reported from different parts of KP during the last 24 hours.

40 more patients detected at capital hospitals:

Situation in Islamabad is also worrying as 40 people landed at federal capital hospitals with dengue symptoms during the last 24 hours. 

According to the DHO stats, presently, 409 people in the city are infected with the disease, while three people have lost their lives since the first case was reported. 

DHO says that 30 cases were reported from Islamabad’s rural areas during the last 24 hours, bringing the number of people suffering from the virus in these areas to 262 while there are 147 dengue patients in the city itself.
