‘Mum liked it': Ayesha Omar fires back at Lazawal Ishq critics
Ayesha Omar has responded to the criticism surrounding the Lazawal Ishq reality show.
Responding to online backlash, Ayesha revealed that her mother’s opinion is what truly matters to her, and she absolutely loved the show.
Taking to Instagram, Ayesha shared a picture from her meeting with the ladies of Lazawal Ishq and captioned it with a powerful message for her detractors.
“Did my mum like the first episode? BILKULLLLLL! And her opinion and feedback matter the most to me,” she wrote, hinting at the criticism she’s been facing since the show’s premiere.
The Bulbulay star added, “She thought it was so interesting and different to see and hear how young adults these days are feeling and thinking, what their likes and dislikes are, what their preferences are.
"The interaction was healthy, she said. She’s really looking forward to following the show. And that means the world to me. It took her years to start liking Bulbulay!”
She added, “This was my first interaction with the ladies of Lazawal Ishq. Over the last few weeks of filming, I have grown to love them all.” She encouraged fans to “go check out the first episode on YouTube and share their feedback.”
Since its debut, Lazawal Ishq has become one of the most talked-about digital shows.
The YouTube-based reality series features eight contestants – four men and four women – living together in a luxury villa as they complete emotional and social tasks to test compatibility.
While many praised its fresh format, others slammed it as “un-Islamic” and a “copy of Western dating shows.” Hashtags like #BoycottLazawalIshq and #BoycottAyeshaOmar trended shortly after its release.
Ayesha, however, insists the show is not about dating but about communication, bonding, and self-discovery. Pemra also clarified that since Lazawal Ishq airs exclusively on YouTube, it doesn’t fall under its broadcast jurisdiction.
