Punjab govt release Rs5.5b funds for uplift work in prisons
Punjab government has said that Rs 5.5 billion funds have been allotted for developmental work in prisons during the current fiscal year's budget.
With these funds 2 new prisons will be constructed while uplift work on 6 existing prisons will be completed.
The development work included the upgradation of the prison waiting room and visiting rooms.
In this financial year, 61 existing schemes will be completed and 38 new schemes will be launched. Rs3 billion will be used to launch these schemes, while 2.5 billion will be used for the completion of existing schemes. This is the first time the developmental funds have been released for a prison on such a large scale.
