Rat steals diamond-studded gold jewellery worth millions from Indian shop

A jeweller in India's southern state of Karnataka was left stunned after a rat was caught on CCTV allegedly stealing diamond-studded gold jewellery worth more than PKR 3 million, 24NewsHD TV reported. 

According to local reports, the shop owner opened the store one morning to discover that expensive jewellery had disappeared despite the premises remaining locked.

There were no signs of forced entry, broken locks or damage to the walls or roof.

Puzzled by the mysterious theft, the owner reviewed the shop's CCTV footage and was surprised to find that the "thief" was not a human but a rat living inside the jewellery shop.

The footage reportedly showed the rodent repeatedly entering a display case and carrying away diamond-studded gold ornaments one by one.

After tracking the rat's movements, the shop staff located its burrow and dug it up.

They recovered 10 gold rings and three gold chains hidden inside.

The jeweller said the recovered ornaments were worth approximately 1.05 million Indian rupees, equivalent to nearly Rs3 million in Pakistani currency.

The unusual incident has since attracted widespread attention on social media.
