ECC to review key economic proposals at crucial meeting tomorrow

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet is set to meet tomorrow under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb to review an important 10-point economic agenda.

According to official sources, the meeting will take up several major policy summaries, including proposed amendments to the used vehicle import scheme, aimed at improving transparency and regulation in automobile imports.

The ECC will also review a summary recommending restrictions on the import of chloroform, a move expected to strengthen monitoring and ensure compliance with international safety standards.

Energy-related matters are also on the table, with the committee set to consider proposals for purchasing electricity from Iran to support power needs in border regions.

In addition, a summary seeking budget support funds for the PIA Holding Company will be presented, reflecting the government’s efforts to stabilize the national airline during its restructuring process.

A significant development includes the consideration of a Rs 1.28 billion grant for the Pakistan Digital Authority, aimed at strengthening the country’s digital governance infrastructure.

The ECC will also deliberate on a summary proposing the dissolution of PASSCO, a move that could lead to major structural reforms in the country’s food security and storage management system.

Tomorrow’s meeting is expected to shape several key economic decisions as the government continues efforts to streamline imports, enhance energy security, support digital transformation, and reform state-owned entities.
