Staffer severely burned in Namal University Islamabad's gas cylinder explosion

A gas cylinder explosion at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) has left a 22-year-old staff member critically injured, hospital sources confirmed on Tuesday. 

The victim, identified as Sanaullah, an employee of grade four, sustained severe burn injuries in the blast.

Four people were injured and they have been taken to the hospital,” Islamabad Police spokesperson Jawad Taqi said about the NUML explosion.

According to eyewitness students, the blast occurred in the block situated in front of the Chinese Department.

Thick clouds of smoke were seen rising from the affected block.

The explosion caused fear and chaos, leading to a stampede-like situation as students rushed to escape the area.

Rescue teams rushed immediately to the site.

However, initial reports have confirmed the explosion resulted from a gas cylinder blast.

The law and order agencies are currently assessing the situation, while rescue personnel continue their operations in the affected area.

According to medical officials, 99 percent of Sanaullah’s body has been burned, and he is currently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in extremely critical condition.

Hospital sources said that doctors are making all possible efforts to stabilise him, but his condition remains highly precarious due to the extent of the burn injuries.

Further investigations into the cause of the cylinder explosion are underway.
