Can’t hold local govt elections before August, Punjab and KP tell ECP
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) could not make a final decision on the local government elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday.
According to the inside story of the ECP meeting with representatives of the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments, the two provinces have expressed their inability to hold the local government elections before August this year.
However, the ECP is insisting on local government elections in the two provinces before August. The ECP will continue consultations on the proposals of the provincial governments on the local government elections on Tuesday and then announce its decision.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan too has sought a report from the ECP on local government elections in the two provinces.
