All charges against Man United’s star Greenwood dropped

All attempted rape and assault charges on English footballer Mason Greenwood Thursday were dropped after a year after the Manchester United Star’s arrest.

Mason Greenwood, 21, who plays as a forward striker was booked for three charges of Rape and Assault and appeared in court. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) Thursday dropped all the charges against him in accordance with the Code for Crown prosecutors and Greenwood maintains his position in Man United's Premier League squad list.

Greenwood was charged of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in the October of 2022.

Mason was first capped in January when he was accused of rape and assault on a young woman following the images and videos that were posted online. He was also suspended from his club Manchester United on full pay and also removed from the FIFA 22 game.

A Crown Prosecution Service spokesperson said that “We have a duty to keep cases under continuous review. In this case a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. In these circumstances, we are under a duty to stop the case. We have explained our decision to all parties.”

He said that they would always encourage any potential victims to come forward and report to police and they will prosecute wherever their legal test is met.

All the charges on Greenwood from November 2018 to the October 2021 were related to the same woman.
