Kh Asif’s assets skyrocketed from Rs5.1m in 1993 to Rs118m: Akbar

January 2, 2021 05:55 PM

Advisor to Prime Minister on Accountability and Interior Mirza Shahzad Akbar has said that just like Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Asif used the mode of telegraphic transfer (TT) to mint money, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Addressing a presser in Islamabad on Saturday, he said that Khawaja Asif had owned assets of worth Rs5.1 million in 1993. He said Asif used to work at a firm in Dubai, which paid him Rs2.2 million monthly in salary.

He challenged PML-N leader and former federal minister to show the proof of receiving Rs140 million in salaries.

Advisor to PM said Asif had failed to satisfy National Accountability Bureau (NAB) with regard to corruption charges against him.

He further said there were 48 bank accounts in the name of PML-N leader and his family members.

Shahzad said the discrepancy between the present and past assets of Asif was quite evident. He explained that PML-N leader had assets of worth Rs12 million in 2013 which later skyrocketed to Rs118 million.

He added be it Shehbaz Sharif, Rana Sanaullah or Khawaja Asif, they all had only way of accumulating assets, and that was through TTs.

Shahzad Akbar said Khawaja Asif was arrested because he could not satisfy the NAB on his assets beyond known means. He said Khawaja Asif's assets grew very fast and he purchased several properties in different cities of Pakistan while being a public officeholder.

Shahzad Akbar said under the law, the unexplained wealth of a public officeholder is perceived to be corruption.

Shahzad Akbar said the PML-N leader claimed that he was given salary in cash whenever he was asked about transfers from his salary account. Khawaja Asif did not even has a pay slip of his income, he added.

Shahzad Akbar further claimed that serial number of cheques presented by Khawaja Asif in plot sale deed were issued a month later and the plot beside house of the PML-N leader, which was also sold, is still under his possession.

Speaking on the occasion, Usman Dar refuted the impression of political victimization. He said Khawaja Asif does not have any known business, but he is one of the richest persons of Sialkot.

Usman Dar said it was unique that defence minister of a country was also simultaneously doing job in a foreign company.
