1,853 women in Punjab are still missing, reveals police report

As many as 1,853 women in Punjab are still missing, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to the report submitted by the Punjab IGP to the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday, a copy of which is available with City42, 3,252 cases of women, who have either been kidnapped or have gone missing due to other reasons are being investigated.

It was claimed in the report that following last hearing of the case, 1,405 women were recovered.

The report informed that 1,927 trained officers were investigating these cases.

Also on Tuesday, the LHC referred the matter related to an intra-court appeal filed in the case of registration of an FIR to Jhang DPO Sajid Hussain Khokhar and ordered him to decide it on merit.

A two-member bench, headed by Justice Shehram Sarwar Chaudhry, heard the case.

Muhammad Irfan Raza, the plaintiff, had filed an appeal against the court order of declaring the order of registration of an FIR null and void.

Additional Advocate General Al-Hafiz Latif Ahmad Khawaja, who represented the Punjab government in the case, said that the petitioner had got a toll plaza’s contract in Jhang. “However, the contract was cancelled after he became a defaulter,” he said, adding that following the cancellation, highway employees sealed the office.

This prompted the petitioner, he informed, to obtain from Justice of Peace the order for the registration of an FIR.
