Housemaid dies after alleged sexual assault and abortion procedure in Lahore
An 18-year-old housemaid who had accused two men of repeatedly sexually assaulting her has died after undergoing an abortion procedure, prompting police to add murder charges to the case registered in Lahore's Model Town neighbourhood.
According to police, the young woman was employed as a domestic worker and had initially alleged in her written and video statements that her landlord's son and a driver had repeatedly raped her over a period of five months.
Police said the victim stated in a video recorded before her death that it was discovered in November 2025 that she was pregnant, and her parents were informed about the situation. She alleged that the landlord's son and the driver continued to sexually assault her during this period.
According to the victim's statement, she was later taken to a private clinic in Raiwind for an abortion. Police said her health deteriorated following the procedure, after which she was shifted to Services Hospital in Lahore. The hospital administration subsequently informed the police about the case.
Based on the woman's written complaint and video statement, police registered a case alleging gang rape. However, investigators said that before her death, the victim changed her statement and accused only the driver. Police officials claim the change came under pressure from the landlords and the victim's father.
The woman remained under treatment at Services Hospital for two days before succumbing to her condition, police said.
Following her death, murder charges have been incorporated into the FIR against the accused. Police officials said further progress in the investigation will depend on the findings of the post-mortem report, which is expected to determine the exact cause of death and assist investigators in establishing additional facts surrounding the case.
Authorities have stated that the investigation remains ongoing.
