Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday lashed out at government wondering why prices were not going down after a reduction in the POL and power prices. He said the government was hoodwinking people and the IMF both hoping that Prime Minister Imran Niazi would not take a U-turn on his petrol and electricity package, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In his statement, the PML-N leader said though the government had announced a cut in the prices of petroleum and electricity, but no reduction could be seen in inflation. Who will reduce the transport fare, he wondered.

He deplored that the government showed its benevolence towards those who amassed ill-gotten money but it inflicted a tsunami of inflation on poor people and introduced black laws for media.

He censured the government that on one hand, it was decreasing electricity and petrol prices while on the other, it was raising gas prices.

He said that the likelihood that the government would raise price of Sui Northern by Rs94/MMBTU and price of Sui Southern by Rs50/MMBTU from July 1 spoke volume of government’s hollow package.

The Opposition leader in National Assembly lamented that the government had hiked LPG price by Rs27/kg and made the domestic cylinder expensive by Rs319. It is tantamount to snatch relief from the poor, he added.

He said that the government was taking foreign loan amounting $1 billion every month deploring that no other government in the past had obtained so much loan which the PTI government had taken in just three years.

Shehbaz said that even the economic experts were shaken to learn that country’s foreign debt had exceeded by $47.55 billion.

He said in order to please the IMF, the government was fooling people and in order to appease people, the government was tricking the IMF.
