Kangana Ranaut, Javed Akhtar settle legal matter 'amicably'

After five years of legal disputes, actress-turned-MP Kangana Ranaut and lyricist Javed Akhtar have finally reached an amicable resolution in their defamation lawsuits against each other.

The 'Queen' actress recently shared the news of resolving her legal matter with Javed on Instagram Stories. She posted a photo of the two and wrote, “Today, Javed ji and I have resolved our legal matter (defamation case) through mediation. In the process, Javed ji has been extremely kind and gracious. He has also agreed to write songs for my upcoming directorial project.”

The legal battle, which involved over 40 hearings, came to a close after Kangana appeared in Bandra Court concerning the defamation case filed by Javed Akhtar. Initially heard at Andheri Metropolitan Court, the case was later transferred to Bandra Court.

Reports indicate that Kangana faced mounting pressure from the court to appear in person after skipping several previous hearings. During the last hearing, the Bandra Court issued an ultimatum, warning that a non-bailable warrant would be issued if she failed to attend. The court emphasized that it was her final opportunity to appear, with further legal action pending if she didn’t comply.

The conflict between Kangana and Javed began in 2020, after an interview the actress gave to a news channel following the tragic death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. In the interview, Kangana claimed that Akhtar had asked her to apologize to Hrithik Roshan, her co-star, who had filed a lawsuit against her in 2016, seeking an apology over a public dispute regarding their rumored relationship.

In December 2024, both parties agreed to pursue mediation to resolve the matter.
