PTI social media activist Khawla Chaudhry sent to jail on judicial remand

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) social media activist Khawla Chaudhry was sent to jail on judicial remand on Sunday after being produced before a duty judge in Islamabad, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to details, the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cybercrime Wing arrested Khawla Chaudhry late Saturday night from Islamabad Airport, where she was about to leave for Umrah with her husband. She was detained over allegations of posting anti-state tweets on social media.

The accused was presented before Duty Judge Abdul Sattar by Assistant Director Zeeshan, who requested a five-day physical remand for further investigation. However, Khawla’s legal team, including Mian Ali Ashfaq Chaudhry, Owais Younis, Barrister Fahad, and Sardar Qadeer, strongly opposed the remand, arguing that the charges were politically motivated and unsupported by evidence.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the duty judge reserved the verdict on the FIA’s plea and later ordered judicial remand, sending Khawla Chaudhry to jail.

According to court proceedings, Khawla is accused of posting content deemed anti-state on her social media accounts. The FIA maintains that further investigation is underway to determine the intent and scope of her online activity.
