A scandal has surfaced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where visas were issued to over 130 foreigners on fake CNICs (computerised national identity cards), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
The latest scam came just weeks after the revelation that around 14,000 foreign nationals allegedly got processed their travel documents from in Lahore by submitting either bogus, forged, invalid, fake or incomplete credentials in past two years.
According to details, it has been revealed that over 50 such visas were issued to foreigners by the passport offices in Peshawar and over 80 in Kohat by cheating the system.
But the alarming part is the fact that the officials involved in issuance of these visas are still working on their posts.
On the other hand, an assistant director – one of those behind this scam in Peshawar – had opted for early retirement, while the action against the deputy director in Kohat is limited to an inquiry committee.
However, this approach on part of the top authorities doesn’t stop there. The officials issuing visas to foreigners on the basis of fake CNICs are being promoted instead of facing a harsh action.
In fact, the names of some of these officials are included in the list for posting abroad.
Meanwhile, the recently-posted DG Passport Dr Naeem Rauf has taken notice of the serious matter and ordered an inquiry into that.
