The federal cabinet has given a formal approval to assign the task to the FIA to start investigation into the purported audio tapes of former prime minister Imran Khan regarding cipher and initiate a legal action in this regard, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

The cabinet has given its assent to take a legal action against the ex-premier and his then principal secretary Azam Khan.

A federal cabinet committee was formed on Sept 30 to look into the matter of purported audio tapes featuring Imran Khan, his then principal secretary and other ministers who were discussing the cipher

In its formal meeting on Saturday, the committee sent a summary of its recommendations regarding initiation of a legal action to the federal cabinet for approval.

The federal cabinet approved the summary through a circulation today.

According to the recommendations put forward by the committee, it involves a matter of national security which has serious repercussions on the national interests. It recommends to form a committee which should be comprised senior officials of FIA and other intelligence agencies.

It further suggests to cabinet to ask the FIA team to take legal action against those who have committed the crime as per the law.

It is pertinent to mention here that the first purported audio tape of Imran Khan about cipher was surfaced on Sept 28 and the second part of the purported cipher conversation was emerged on Sept 30 in which voices believed to be of Imran, Azam Khan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, and Asad Umar were discussing to change the minutes of the cipher.
