Bangladesh Women beat Pakistan by 7 wickets in ICC Women’s World Cup Clash

Bangladesh Women defeated Pakistan Women by seven wickets in the ICC Women’s World Cup at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo Thursday.

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana, playing her 50th ODI, won the toss and chose to bat first, but her side struggled from the outset.

Pakistan were bowled out for just 129 runs in 38.3 overs after losing both openers, Umaima Sohail and Sidra Amin, for ducks in the very first over to Marufa Akhtar.

Ramin Shamim (23) and Muniba Ali (17) briefly steadied the innings with a 42-run stand, while Fatima Sana added 22 and Diana Baig remained unbeaten on 16. However, consistent breakthroughs from Bangladesh’s bowlers kept Pakistan from building momentum. Leg-spinner Shorna Akhtar produced career-best figures of 3 wickets for 3 runs, while Marufa Akhtar and Nahida Akhtar claimed two scalps each.

In reply, Bangladesh chased down the target comfortably, reaching 133 for 3 in 31.1 overs. Debutant Rubia Haider led the charge with an unbeaten 54 off 8 fours, sharing a 62-run third-wicket partnership with skipper Nigar Sultana (23). Subhana Mostari sealed the win with 24 not out, hitting six boundaries.

For Pakistan, Diana Baig, Ramin Shamim, and Fatima Sana took one wicket apiece.

Pakistan Women will now face India Women in their second group match on October 5 in Colombo.
