CM Maryam announces free public transport, fuel subsidies across Punjab
According to a notification, citizens holding CNIC can travel free on Metro, Speedo, Green buses and Orange Train services for one month: Fuel subsidy announced for bikers and farmers across the province
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Friday announced a major relief package for citizens amid the ongoing global economic crisis, declaring free public transport across all cities of the province along with fuel subsidies for bikers and farmers.
Punjab Transport Company has issued a notification in this regard. According to a notification, citizens across Punjab will be able to travel free on government buses. ID card is mandatory for citizens to avail free transport facility.The students will have to show their student card to get free travel facility.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, CM Maryam Nawaz said that the government would not leave the public alone in difficult times and urged citizens to prefer public transport over private vehicles under extraordinary circumstances.
As part of the relief package, travel on the Orange Line Train, Metro Bus Service, Speedo Bus and Green Electric Bus will be made completely free for commuters, eliminating the need to purchase tickets during the specified period.
In addition, the provincial government has announced a subsidy of Rs100 per litre on 20 litres of fuel for every registered motorcycle owner.
Farmers have also been included in the relief measures, with a subsidy of Rs100 per litre of diesel per acre aimed at supporting the agriculture sector and ensuring food security.
The chief minister also decided to provide direct financial assistance to farmers as part of broader efforts to protect agriculture and food supply chains.
Praising the federal government’s role, Maryam Nawaz commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for maintaining petroleum supply and prices in Pakistan for a month despite the global crisis.
She said that billions of rupees in relief had been extended to the public during this period, reflecting sincere efforts to shield citizens from economic hardship.
She noted that the ongoing global conflict has triggered a severe economic crisis worldwide, adding that Pakistan, due to its reliance on imported oil, has been particularly affected.
She reaffirmed her commitment to easing the financial burden on citizens and promised that further relief would be provided as conditions improve.
