The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has tightened the noose around the makers and sellers of substandard food items, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

According to the PFA sources, a raid was carried out on a warehouse where 70kg of packing material and 90kg of spurious chili powder were seized in Narowal.

The warehouse was sealed, and a case was registered against the warehouse owner.

“The accused were using adulterated colour in the making of chili powder in the warehouse,” said PFA District Officer Imran.

“The noose has been tightened around these enemies of the society and the mafia,” added he.

In Chakwal, the PFA took a stern action against the manufacturing of unhealthy ice cream and destroyed 1,200 packets of spurious ice cream in a raid.

“Substandard ice cream was being produced with poor ingredients and chemicals,” said a PFA spokesperson.

“The food safety team carried out a four-hour long operation with the help of the police. The action was taken after negative results of the samples taken on the spot,” added he.

A case was also registered against the owner of the production unit.

In Hafizabad, a heavy fine was imposed on a well-known sweets shop located on Gujranwala Road, according to PFA Director General Shoaib Khan Jadoon.

“The action was taken over the presence of insects and non-observance of hygiene rules by the sweets shops owners,” the PFA director general said.

“A milk shop was also fined for violating rules and regulations,” he added.

“The PFA teams also checked milk-carrying motorcycles at Ghoda Chowk and destroyed hundreds of litres of milk after the results of their samples came negative from the mobile testing laboratory. The adulterated milk, which was destroyed, was to be supplied to shops and houses,” he stated.
