Polling underway for by-elections in seven districts of Balochistan

Key local body by-elections for reserved seats for women, minorities, and labour will continue till 4pm: 25 contestants compete for 16 reserved seats

The local body by-elections for reserved seats are currently underway across seven districts of Balochistan, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to the Provincial Election Commission Balochistan, polling began this morning and will continue until 4 pm.

These by-elections are being held in the districts of Zhob, Sherani, Loralai, Barkhan, Kalat, Khuzdar, and Surab.

A total of 25 candidates are contesting for 16 vacant seats.

Breakdown of contested seats:

Women’s Reserved Seats: 6 seats contested by 15 candidates

Labour Reserved Seats: 2 seats contested by 4 candidates

Farmer Seat: 1 seat contested by 3 candidates

Non-Muslim Seats: 7 seats with 3 candidates in the fray

A total of 106 general councillors will be casting their votes in these elections.

The Election Commission has assured smooth conduct of polling and urged voters to exercise their right peacefully.
