Ex-senator Mushtaq Ahmed sent on physical remand in Islamabad protest case

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) Monday handed Mushtaq Ahmed and co-accused Daniyal over to Islamabad police on a three-day physical remand to facilitate further investigation into the case related to a protest in Islamabad, 24NewsHD TV reported. 

According to the FIR registered at Shalimar Police Station, around 400 to 500 protesters gathered in Sector F-10, where they allegedly blocked roads, disrupting traffic and bringing vehicular movement in the area to a halt.

Police further alleged that demonstrators forced shopkeepers to close their businesses and refused to disperse despite repeated warnings from law enforcement officials.

The FIR stated that protesters allegedly vandalised a media vehicle, damaged government property, and pelted stones at police personnel, leaving several officers injured during the clashes.

The case has been registered against Mushtaq Ahmed, Akhunzada Hussain Yousafzai, and other unidentified individuals under anti-terrorism laws, along with relevant provisions of the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act.

During the ATC hearing, the prosecution sought a 30-day physical remand, arguing that investigators needed custody of the accused to recover a vehicle and weapons allegedly linked to the incident.

After hearing arguments from both sides, Duty Judge Rukhshanda Shaheen granted a three-day physical remand, allowing police to continue their investigation.
