Asian Champions Trophy: Pakistan refuses to play hockey in India
Men’s Asian Champions Trophy 2026 is scheduled to be held in India from October 27 to November 5
Pakistan has refused to play its hockey matches in India at the Men’s Asian Champions Trophy 2026 after Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has asked the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) to move the national team’s matches to a neutral venue.
PHF Ad Hoc President Mohiuddin Ahmed Wani said the federation had requested the AHF to either relocate the tournament or shift all of Pakistan’s matches to a neutral venue. He said the request was made in view of the sensitive situation between Pakistan and India and prevailing security concerns.
Wani said the move was aimed at ensuring a safe, dignified and suitable environment for Pakistani players and officials. He reiterated that Pakistan remained fully committed to participating in the Asian Champions Trophy and international hockey. He said Pakistan was ready to play against India and all other International Hockey Federation (FIH) member countries.
The PHF president also said Pakistan remained committed to keeping sports separate from politics. Wani expressed hope that the AHF would positively consider Pakistan’s request and shift its matches to a neutral venue to ensure the national team’s full and uninterrupted participation in the tournament.
The Men’s Asian Champions Trophy 2026 is scheduled to be held in India from October 27 to November 5. Pakistan, India, China, Japan, Malaysia and South Korea are set to participate in the event. Matches are scheduled to be played in Jalandhar and Mohali.
