England beat Australia by 27 runs to reach ICC U-19 World Cup final

England advanced to the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2006 final after defeating Australia by 27 runs in the first semi-final, held in Bloemfontein, with centuries from both team captains marking the highlight of the match.

Batting first, England posted 277 for seven in their 50 overs, led by captain Thomas Rew’s 110 runs and a supporting 40 from Caleb Falconer. Australian bowlers Hayden Schiller and Naden Corey took two wickets each.

In response, Australia struggled with regular wickets despite a fighting century from captain Oliver Peck, who scored 100 runs.

Nitesh Samuel added 47, while Aryan Sharma contributed 34.

The Australian innings ended at 250 all out in the 48th over.

England’s bowling attack, including James Minto, Sebastian Morgan, Ralphy Elbert, and Manny Lumsden, claimed two wickets each, applying consistent pressure and triggering crucial breakthroughs.

Australia’s chase faltered as they slipped from five wickets down for 134 in the 32nd over to eight wickets down for 207 by the 43rd over.

England will face the winner of the second semi-final between India and Afghanistan in the final, aiming to secure the U-19 World Cup title.
