The Election Commission Monday announced the second phase of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) local government elections will be held on March 27.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, the EC announced its holding decision and changed the phase-II elections’ date at the request of the Nawaz League.
The PML-N had taken a stand that it is very cold in the Hazara division in January which makes it difficult for voters to reach the polling stations.
According to the EC’s decision, polling in 18 districts of KP will be held on March 27. The EC has set up the election tribunals in 17 districts for election complaints in KP local body elections.
Meanwhile, the election schedule for the 10 seats postponed in the first phase of local body elections in KP has also been released. As per the new schedule, polling for the 10 seats will be held on February 13 and results will be compiled by February 16. Nomination papers from candidates could be submitted from January 10 to 12. The election was postponed due to the death of candidates for the said 10 seats.
On the other hand, the Election Commission of Pakistan has launched a voter awareness campaign among youth in universities, colleges and high schools across the country.
The campaign aims to ensure that young people exercise their right to vote in the 2023 general election. More than 50 million people between the ages of 18 and 36 are registered as voters in the electoral rolls.
According to Election Commission officials, District Election Commissioners and Regional Election Commissioners will conduct voter registration campaigns for students in educational institutions.
