Dense fog again leads to closure of motorways in Punjab

Authorities closed different sections of the motorway for traffic on Saturday after large swathes of Punjab were again blanketed by dense fog, reducing visibility considerably and making it hard for motorists to drive, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to the spokesman for the motorway police, M-2, from Lahore to Kot Momin, M-3, from Darkhana to Faizpur, M-4, from Sher Shah to Pindi Bhattian, M-11, from Lahore Toll Plaza to Sambrial, and M-5, from Multan to Sukkur, were all closed for traffic.

On the other hand, visibility also dropped considerably on national highways.

Dense fog was reported from Lahore, Jhang, Multan, Khanewal, Mian Channu, Sahiwal and other cities.

Islamabad remains engulfed by fog 

Not only the plains of Punjab, but Islamabad and its suburbs, too, remained engulfed by fog due to which temperatures dropped to six degrees Celsius.

According to the Met Office, winds will blow in the city at above than normal speed.

Fog in Lodhran

Likewise, traffic in southern Punjab city of Lodhran moved at a snail’s pace due to thick layers of fog.

Fog also resulted in the suspension of the supply of electricity to different localities of the city after several feeders tripped.

Fog also reduced visibility in the upper parts of Sindh.

Dense fog was reported from Khairpur Nathan Shah due to which visibility reduced to five meters only.

Fog alert issued for southern, central Punjab 

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued an alert for dense fog in different areas of the central and southern Punjab during the next three days.

The weather department forecast dry and cold weather for most parts of the country during the next 24 hours.

However, it said that more snowfall was expected over the mountains in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

It predicted bitterly cold weather for the mountainous areas in the country’s north and west.
