Fisherman catches 102kg fish in Narowal, offers to sell for Rs200,000

River Ravi, which typically experiences minimal or almost no water flow during the winter months, is carrying unusually high water levels this season.

This unexpected rise in water has led to the appearance of large and rare fish, with a local fisherman in Narowal making back-to-back remarkable catches within days.

In the latest incident, a young man identified as Muhammad Arif caught a massive fish weighing 102 kilograms from the River Ravi near the Kartarpur area of Narowal, according to 24 News HD TV channel.

Speaking to the media, Arif said, "I will sell it only if it fetches Rs200,000, and then I will go home."

According to residents, the flowing river has brought in rare and oversized fish, creating a surge of interest among fishermen and traders in the area.

This is not Arif’s first extraordinary catch.

Just a day earlier, he had caught a 65-kilogram fish from the same stretch of the River Ravi, an incident reported by 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday. After hauling the fish to a local fish market, a trader offered him Rs90,000, but Arif rejected the offer, insisting he would only sell it for Rs100,000, which he later managed to secure.

At the time, Arif explained that the fish was a high-quality royal breed, saying it had distinctive features, including a thorn, which increased its value in the market.

Local fishermen say such massive catches have become more frequent following the August floods in Punjab, which has altered water flows and brought fish from deeper or upstream areas into accessible zones.

Large fish catches in the River Ravi are not entirely unprecedented. In October 2025, another resident of Narowal caught a giant 92-kilogram fish from floodwater near village Chandyali. The fisherman had then expressed joy, saying it was the first time in his life he had caught such an enormous fish.

A recent decision has also been made to establish a model fish market in Lahore. The Fisheries Department has approved the project. The layout of the fish market will be prepared by I-DEP.

I-DEP has already finalized the design of the project. The fish market will be developed as a state-of-the-art facility.

A processing plant will be installed within the market and the project will also include warehouses and retail shops.

These shops will be equipped with advanced technology. The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) will provide the land for the fish market.
