AJK PM inaugurates Muzaffarabad Power Project

Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, inaugurated the Operation Division Muzaffarabad 2 project in a high-profile ceremony attended by senior officials and cabinet members.

Among those present were Speaker of the AJK Legislative Assembly Chaudhry Latif Akbar, Most Senior Minister Col (R) Waqar Ahmed Noor, and government ministers Chaudhry Rashid, Diwan Ali Khan Chughtai, Chaudhry Azhar Sadiq, and Syed Bazil Naqvi.

The Prime Minister received a comprehensive briefing on the new project from Chief Engineer Electricity Muzaffarabad, Ziad Akbar. As part of the initiative, keys to four new cranes designated for Bagh, Palandri, and two divisions in Muzaffarabad were handed over to the concerned authorities.

Speaking on the occasion, PM Anwarul Haq said the Electricity Department’s rationalisation process is underway and praised the department’s performance, acknowledging their efforts even under adverse conditions. He also commended the department for maintaining an uninterrupted electricity supply despite limited resources.

He said the importance of public cooperation in preventing power theft, stating, "If electricity is stolen, it becomes difficult to avoid load shedding. People must pay their bills to protect the facility of affordable electricity."

Touching on broader issues, the Prime Minister dismissed rumours circulating on social media regarding sexual harassment allegations involving his press secretary. “Let me make it clear — there is no such position as Press Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Secretariat,” he said firmly.

He also reiterated his commitment to transparent and constitutional governance, adding, “This system exists in the name of the martyrs of the Kashmir freedom movement. We will protect it at all costs.”

Highlighting economic improvements, PM Anwarul Haq stated that his administration has eliminated the budget deficit despite offering subsidies on electricity and flour. He also announced measures to mitigate monsoon-related damage and expressed satisfaction over security arrangements during Muharram, following visits to Imambargahs.

On governance and accountability, he revealed that police have been freed from political interference, citing a recent case in which a forest guard caught a police officer stealing timber. “No one is above the law, and our mission of impartial public service will continue,” he asserted.
