Law-abiding woman returns escaped son, friend to Malir Jail
When every loved one of the scores of escaped prisoners from Karachi’s Malir Jail was probably thinking or planning to cover up his escape, a woman stuck to the law and returned his escaped son and his friend to the prison authorities, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
Many hearts melted when the woman along with the boys appeared at the jail’s gate and handed them over to the policemen who took them back into the prison.
The chaos unfolded on Monday night when a string of quake tremors rattled various parts of Karachi. Hundreds of jailed prisoners panicked and started to raise alarm, later they were able to came out of their barracks by breaking the locks.
However, it quickly turned into a crisis. Taking advantage of the ruckus, a group of prisoners reportedly overpowered security personnel, snatched weapons, and opened fire.

In the chaos that followed, more than 200 prisoners managed to escape through the main gate, which forced open during the clashes.
DIG Karachi Jails Muhammad Hassan Sahto confirmed that the prisoners not only damaged jail infrastructure but also physically assaulted prison officers during their escape.
Law-enforcement personnel responded with aerial firing to control the situation, but the mass jailbreak had already set in.
Amid the massive manhunt launched to recover the escaped prisoners, an incident caught public’s attention for its moral weight.
One of the escapees returned home shortly after fleeing the jail, but instead of celebrating his freedom, he found himself face-to-face with his mother who has an iron will and was unwilling to compromise on honesty and law.
The woman, a widow, was shocked to see her son back home like this. She immediately convinced him and his friend to surrender and personally walked them back to the jail’s perimeter. There, she handed them over to the police officers, pleading with them not to hurt them.
With folded hands, she apologized on her son’s behalf and emotionally explained that he had made a mistake in a moment of fear, adding her son had been imprisoned due to a photo found on his mobile phone, which allegedly linked him to a friend involved in a criminal case. Despite being her eldest and only support, she said, “Right is right. I could not let him live as a fugitive.”
