Federal budget likely on June 10 as govt, PPP hold pre-budget consultations

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, held a consultative meeting with the senior leadership of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) ahead of the presentation of the federal budget.

The meeting reviewed current and development expenditure priorities in detail, including allocations under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP). Participants also discussed fiscal stability, public welfare initiatives and development projects planned for the fiscal year 2026-27.

Broader economic priorities aimed at promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth also came under discussion during the meeting.

According to participants, there was unanimous agreement to recommend to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that the federal budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 be presented on Wednesday, June 10.

The meeting was attended by PPP leaders Syed Murad Ali Shah, Syed Naveed Qamar, Sherry Rehman and Saleem Mandviwala. Sindh Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoro, Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa were also present.

Federal Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial and other senior officials from relevant ministries and departments also participated in the discussions.

The consultation formed part of the government's ongoing engagement with coalition partners ahead of the announcement of the federal budget and economic priorities for the upcoming fiscal year.
