OGDCL discovers new oil and gas reserves in Sanghar's Babi Deep-1 well

The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited has announced the discovery of new oil and gas reserves in the Sanghar district of Sindh, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.

According to official communication shared with the Pakistan Stock Exchange, the discovery was made at the Babi Deep-1 well, where initial production has already begun.

The newly discovered reserves are expected to yield around 2,000 barrels of crude oil per day along with approximately 1.1 million cubic feet of natural gas daily, providing a notable addition to Pakistan’s domestic energy supply.

OGDCL confirmed that the hydrocarbon reserves were identified in the Lower Goru formation within the Babi and Dhamaraki lease area in Sanghar. The well has reached a depth of approximately 3,030 metres, where the presence of oil and gas was verified.

The company described the development as an important exploration milestone and a 100 per cent company-owned project, highlighting its significance for future exploration activities in the region.

Officials believe the discovery could help strengthen Pakistan’s energy security and contribute to reducing the pressure on the country’s hydrocarbon imports. It is also expected to open new avenues for further exploration in surrounding areas.

Energy experts say such discoveries are crucial for improving domestic production at a time when Pakistan continues to face challenges in balancing energy demand and supply.
