Pakistan emerged as genuine mediator in Iran–US talks: Iranian envoy
Says Iran appreciates Pakistan and field marshal for their mediation efforts
Iran's Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, on Tuesday stated that Pakistan emerged as a genuine mediator in the Iran–US negotiations, adding that Iran is sincerely grateful to the Government of Pakistan and the field marshal for their efforts and appreciates the Pakistani people for their support of Iran and Gaza.
The Iranian ambassador was addressing a ceremony held to mark the 37th death anniversary of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini.
While addressing the large gathering, Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam said that Pakistan has played the role of a genuine mediator in the Iran–US negotiations. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Pakistan and the Field Marshal for their efforts and thanked the Pakistani nation for its support of Iran and the people of Gaza.
The Iranian ambassador emphasized that Iran seeks to resolve issues through negotiations; however, certain obstacles remain. He stated that Iran is still committed to the negotiating table, but its national interests must also be respected. He added that Iran would not bow to pressure from the United States or Western countries.
Reza Amiri Moghadam further claimed that when a threat of an attack on Beirut arose, Iran warned that northern Israel would be evacuated if such an attack took place. He said that five minutes later, then-President Trump reportedly called Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and urged him not to proceed with the attack. According to the ambassador, Trump's action reflected concern over the capabilities of the Iranian armed forces.
