Abbottabad’s galiyat shuts schools, restricts tourism amid heavy snowfall

Both private and government educational institutions in the Galiyat region of Abbottabad have been closed due to intense snowfall for three days, from March 4 to March 6, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The decision was officially announced by the District Education Department on Monday to ensure the safety of students and staff amid the extreme weather conditions.

The affected areas include Union Councils Beeran Gali, Nagri Bala, Nathiagali, Tajwal, Patan Kalan, Kukmong, Pluck, Namli Maira, and Khaira Gali, where heavy snowfall has disrupted normal life. Schools in these areas have been temporarily shut down as a precautionary measure.

Authorities have also imposed restrictions on tourist travel to Galiyat, as the snowfall has made roads hazardous, increasing the risk of accidents and travel disruptions.

The snowfall began early Monday morning and continued intermittently throughout the day, covering the region in a picturesque layer of white. The heaviest snowfall was recorded in Galiyat and Thandiyani, where up to six inches of snow accumulated, transforming the landscape into a winter wonderland.

Local authorities have advised residents and visitors to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel in the affected areas. Emergency response teams are on high alert to assist in case of any weather-related incidents.
