900km journey for love: Man’s grand proposal goes viral

A young man in China travelled more than 900 kilometres by car to surprise his girlfriend with a marriage proposal — all while carrying a bright red banner asking fellow drivers to let him pass, 24NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old, identified as Tan, embarked on the journey in February, driving from his home province of Jiangxi to Guizhou, where his girlfriend had returned to celebrate the Lunar New Year with her family.

Tan, who runs a business in Fujian, covered a distance of approximately 932 kilometres in a journey lasting over 12 hours.

What made the trip particularly eye-catching was the red banner displayed on his vehicle.

The sign read: “Let me go first, I'm going to Guizhou to propose marriage”

The message not only reflected his excitement but also helped him navigate heavy New Year traffic, as many drivers reportedly gave way after reading it.

Tan shared that at the start of the journey, the long distance made him feel somewhat tired.

However, the closer he got to his destination, the more excited he became, and the time seemed to fly by.

Even so, he always prioritized safety and ultimately arrived at his girlfriend's house safely.

 She was unaware of his surprise visit and proposal plans.

 The couple met in college and have been together for four years.

On the sixth day of the Lunar New Year, Tan officially went to the girl's family to propose marriage.

The engagement ceremony took place on the ninth day of the lunar calendar, and they are preparing for their wedding this year.

Tan said the banner proved helpful during prolonged traffic jams, with at least one fellow driver offering congratulations along the way.

The extraordinary road trip has since drawn attention online, with many praising the romantic gesture as a creative and heartfelt way to pop the question.
