Happy birthday Shraddha Kapoor, from 100 auditions to stardom

From facing nearly 100 auditions before landing her first role to delivering one of the biggest blockbusters in Hindi cinema history, Shraddha Kapoor has carved a journey defined by resilience, reinvention and record breaking success.

As the actress celebrates her birthday today, fans across the globe are flooding social media with love for the star who has grown from a promising newcomer into one of Bollywood’s most bankable names.

Born on March 3, 1987, in Mumbai, Shraddha grew up in a household deeply rooted in cinema. She is the daughter of veteran actor Shakti Kapoor and Shivangi Kapoor, with connections to the legendary Mangeshkar musical lineage on her maternal side.

Despite the industry background, Shraddha has shared in past interviews that her entry into films was not handed to her easily.

According to the actress, she auditioned nearly 100 times before securing her first project, a reminder that even star kids must prove their mettle.

Initially enrolled at Boston University with aspirations of studying psychology, destiny steered her toward films after she received an acting offer that changed her life’s direction.

After making her debut with Teen Patti, Shraddha faced a slow start at the box office. It wasn’t until 2013 that her career took a dramatic turn with Aashiqui 2, directed by Mohit Suri.

Her portrayal of Aarohi, a small town singer navigating love and ambition, struck a deep emotional chord with audiences. The romantic musical became a runaway success, catapulting her into the league of leading actresses almost overnight.

Post Aashiqui 2, Shraddha consciously avoided being typecast. From intense romance in Ek Villain to high energy dance drama in ABCD 2 and action packed entertainment in Baaghi, she showcased her range.

Her willingness to experiment continued with the horror comedy space in Stree, a film that became both a commercial and critical success.

If Stree revived a genre, Stree 2 elevated Shraddha’s career to new heights. The sequel shattered box office records and emerged as one of the highest grossing Hindi films of all time.

Her mysterious yet charming performance once again won audiences over, firmly cementing her position in the horror comedy universe that has become a cultural phenomenon.

Beyond acting, Shraddha is a trained singer and has lent her voice to several film tracks, reflecting her musical upbringing. She has also built a strong entrepreneurial identity, launching fashion ventures and endorsing major brands.

On social media, she remains one of India’s most followed celebrities, blending glamour with relatability, a balance that keeps her fan base fiercely loyal.

Up next, Shraddha is set to headline Eetha, a biographical drama based on legendary dancer Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar, a role expected to showcase yet another dimension of her acting depth.
