The National Electricity and Power Regulatory Authority has allowed to raise power tariff by 34 paisas per unit under the head of monthly fuel charge adjustments for the month of March, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

A public hearing was conducted at the Nepra Headquarters on Wednesday on the monthly fuel charges of Discos for the month of March.

The hearing was presided over by Nepra Chairman Tauseef H Farooqui.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G) submitted a petition to the Nepra seeking an increase of Rs1.17 per unit under the head of fuel charge adjustments (FCA).

During the hearing, the Nepra rejected the CCPA’s demand for Rs1.71/unit hike in the electricity rate and allowed 34 paisas increase.

The power regulatory body said that after an initial analysis of the data, only 34 paisas per unite hike is justified.

It said that the decision will be applicable on all Disco consumers except the lifeline users and the electric vehicle charging stations.

The decision is also not applicable on the K-Electric consumers, the Nepra said, adding that it will release its detailed decision after a thorough examination of the data later.

Allows Rs3.70/unit increase in K-Electric power price

Meanwhile, the Nepra allowed the K-Electric to increase electricity rate by Rs3.70/unit under the head of monthly fuel charge adjustments.

With this hike, the Karachiites will bear an additional burden of Rs5.5 billion.

According to Nepra, the decision will not be applicable on the lifeline consumers.

The power regulatory body on Wednesday heard the K-Electric case seeking increase in the power tariff.

Nepra said that in the month of March, the K-Electric produced electricity with its own resources costing it Rs26.44/unit.

While the rate of electricity provided by the federation was Rs9.50/unit.

It noted that the rate of LNG provided by the Sui Southern Gas went up by 14%. Whereas the LNG provided by the Pakistan LN became expensive by 20%.

The price of electricity provided by the CPPA registered 41% hike.

The Nepra said the K-Electric added 1,900 MW electricity to its system.

The Nepra chairman noted that the production rate of electricity produced by imported fuel has increased manifold.
