SC Karachi Registry disposes of 24-year old pension dues case 

Supreme Court of Pakistan Karachi Registry has announced verdict in 24 years old case regarding payments of pension dues to a doctor after his voluntary retirement in Cantonment Hospital Karachi, reported 24NewsHDTV Channel. 

Supreme Court rejected appeal against pension order of Sindh High Court which had directed the hospital to pay all dues to retired doctor. 

During the hearing SC was told by the lawyer that Dr Habib-ur-Rehman was being denied pension dues despite his 18 years of service as according to laws, 10 years of service is required for pension.  During the hearing Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar remarked that according to record, Dr Habib resigned on medical grounds after 18 years of services. 

“Why you are denying pension to him? do you want him to die of hunger, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar questioned the hospital’s counsel. 

Dr Habib-ur-Rehman worked for 18 years why you are not even giving him a pension, Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi remarked. 

Dr Habib is 73 years old, will you force him to get a job?, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar said. 

Justice Shahid Waheed contended that forced retirement was a punishment, resignation on medical grounds was not tantamount to forced retirement. 

“A person has served for 18 years, now let him live”, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar remarked, adding that why do you want he (Dr Habib) should not get even a single rupee, remarked the apex court.
