In a rare political development, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Mulsim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif talked on phone and agreed to join hands on national issues instead of solo flights.
According to a private TV channel, the telephone call was mediated by PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif who was in rain-hit Karachi for two days where he also met top leadership of PPP. Now it was reported that there were two rounds of talks between PML-N and PPP leadership.
The delegation-level meeting was followed by another meeting in which top leaderships of both parties discussed matters pertaining to national issues. In the second meeting, three-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari talked on conference call.
Asif Zardari inquired about the health of Nawaz Sharif while PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also talked to Nawaz Sharif.
Both leaders agreed to form a united front instead of any unilateral effort on national issues.
In the delegation level meeting both parties reiterated their resolve to abide by “Charter of Democracy” inked between late Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif on 14 May 2006 in London.
