CM Maryam Nawaz visits flood-hit Multan, oversees relief efforts

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif visited the Head Muhammad Wala breaching point near Multan on Wednesday to personally assess the flood situation and ongoing rescue operations, 24NewsHD TV reported.

During her visit, members of parliament paid tribute to the Chief Minister for what they described as her decisive role in protecting Multan city from major flood devastation.

She personally received families rescued by Rescue 1122 teams, who had been stranded along with their livestock in rising waters.

Emotional scenes were witnessed as flood-affected families expressed their gratitude, with an elderly woman thanking Maryam Nawaz for saving their homes.

“I am here to share the grief of my brothers and sisters trapped in the flood,” the Chief Minister said, expressing satisfaction that both people and their livestock had been evacuated to safety.

Maryam Nawaz was given a detailed briefing on relief operations by Commissioner Multan Aamir Kareem Khan and Deputy Commissioner Waseem Sindhu.

Officials informed her that flood torrents had damaged 138 villages, directly impacting a 150-foot-wide area in the district.

Approximately 364,000 people have been badly affected, while more than 120,000 livestock were successfully moved to safer areas.

Currently, 7,862 victims are residing in 25 flood relief camps established across Multan.

The Chief Minister inspected the victim identification process through a thermal imaging drone, capable of flying up to 8 kilometers for 45 minutes continuously.

She also visited the PDMA Disaster Response Van to monitor live updates of the flood situation and directed authorities to provide additional vans to strengthen monitoring efforts.

Relief camp arrangements were reviewed in detail, with officials confirming that meals are being served three times daily, alongside 24-hour medical facilities.

 Maryam Nawaz also inquired about mosquito repellents and disinfectant sprays to prevent disease outbreaks, further instructing that milk and essential supplies be ensured for children living in camps.
