Pakistan hockey team stands chance to qualify for WC

Pakistan’s men’s hockey team has got yet another opportunity to play in the World Cup (WC) as now it has emerged that the Green Shirts can participate in the tournament despite not playing in the Asia Cup, presently underway in India, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday. 

Sources told the 24NewsHD TV channel that the winner of the Asia Cup would straight away qualify for the WC, while the remaining five teams would have to play in the qualifying round.  

Fédération Internationale de Hockey (FIH) had included Pakistan as the sixth team in the qualifying event and had informed the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) of its decision, sources explained. 

Giving further details, they said that in order to qualify for the qualifying round, Pakistan would have to play a three-match series against a team standing fifth in the Asia Cup. 

And in the event of success in the series, the country could go on to play in the qualifying round. 

And in case the team remains successful in the qualifying round, Pakistan will qualify for the world cup.
