Student-teacher relationship: Humayun Saeed gives insights into Main Manto Nahi Hun

Humayun Saeed has shared insights into his character in the much-talked-about drama Main Manto Nahi Hun

In an interview, he described it as one of the most powerful roles of his career.

Humayun stressed that the character mirrors a reality often found in society.

Penned by Khalilur Rehman Qamar, the play has long been anticipated due to its unique title, which references legendary short story writer Saadat Hasan Manto.

Produced under Humayun Saeed’s banner, the drama explores love, betrayal, and the thin line between morality and reality.

According to Humayun Saeed, the female lead in the story is drawn to her teacher, not out of rebellion, but because he stands out as kind and respectful in contrast to the harsh and oppressive men surrounding her.

While he failed to admit the drama may not directly challenge certain social taboos, he emphasised that it seeks to present human emotions and relationships honestly.

With Khalil’s sharp dialogue and the title of the play, expectations have been high since the project was first announced.

The play draws inspiration from the themes of truth, societal hypocrisy, and complex human desires that were central to Manto’s works.

According to Humayun, the narrative may not replicate Manto’s raw controversies, but it does aim to reflect the struggles of individuals caught between societal expectations and personal truths.
