‘Gol Gappa’ human smuggler arrested by police in Karachi
Police in Karachi on Friday arrested a notorious human smuggler, known as Munir Mehdi alias Gol Gappa who collected millions of rupees from innocent people by showing them golden dreams to settle them in European and Arab countries, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
SHO Soldier Bazaar Police Station Waqar Azeem said that the accused was declared as proclaimed offender as he was wanted by police in different cases registered against him in Ferozeabad, Baloch Colony and Soldier Bazaar Police Stations.
He said that accused was used to disappear after using delaying tactics and collecting huge amount from innocent people for sending them abroad.
The accused was committing this crime from last one and half years. He promised youngsters to settle them in Qatar, Dubai, Australia, Canada and United States of America (USA).
Police further revealed that the accused collected Rs15 lakh to R230 lakh from each person as ‘advance’.
The accused also trapped innocent people by showing them fake agreements on stamp papers and giving them forge cheques.
The victims also filed petitions in different police stations against the accused for fraud.
Sources said that a team headed by accused Munir Mehdi working in different locations of Karachi to trap innocent people.
The police is expecting some breakthrough during investigation rom accused. Prior to this arrest, Munir Mehdi was also arrested by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Sources said that several petitions were also filed against Munir Mehdi in Federal Investigation Agency Human Trafficking Cell.
Further investigation was underway.
