Islamabad United thrash Rawalpindiz by three wickets in PSL 11 clash

Islamabad United defeated Rawalpindiz by three wickets in a PSL season 11 match at Qaddafi Stadium on Saturday, chasing down a target of 157 in the 15th over, 24NewsHD TV reported.

Islamabad’s successful chase was powered by a blistering innings from young batsman Samir Minhas, who struck 70 off just 36 balls.

Mark Chapman added 24, Haider Ali scored 26, and Mohammad Faik contributed 19 runs.

Rawalpindiz bowlers Mohammad Amir, Jalat Khan, and Rishad Hussain took a wicket each, but they could not defend their modest total.

Earlier, Rawalpindiz posted 156 for 7 against Islamabad United.

Kamran Ghulam top-scored with 50, providing the backbone of the innings at a time when Rawalpindiz needed stability against a disciplined Islamabad bowling attack.

Dane Forster added 44, while Abdullah Fazal contributed 23, helping Rawalpindiz build a competitive total despite regular wickets.

Islamabad United’s bowlers kept the scoring in check for much of the innings, with Richard Gleeson, Salman Irshad, and Faheem Ashraf claiming two wickets each.

Earlier, Islamabad United won the toss and elected to bowl first against Rawalpindiz.

The toss was delayed for forty minutes due to rain, but no overs have been lost.

“The outfield is wet, which means spinners are unlikely to get much help, and in these conditions chasing becomes relatively easier,” IU skipper Shadab Khan said at the toss.

He also praised the ground staff for preparing the venue after recent rain, saying their work had ensured the match could go ahead despite difficult conditions.

“Despite the recent rain, the ground staff deserve immense credit for making the ground playable. They are the real heroes of the PSL,” he said.

Shadab confirmed that Salman Mirza and Andries Gous were not part of Islamabad United’s lineup for the match.

On the other side, Rawalpindiz captain Mohammad Rizwan said, "Expectations from the team and the fans are always high, but hopefully we will soon get back on the path to victory”.

Rizwan also confirmed one change to the Rawalpindiz side, with Jalat Khan replacing fast bowler Naseem Shah in the playing XI.
