Sajal Aly urges fans to stand by delivery workers as petrol prices surge

Pakistani actress Sajal Aly has called on fans to support delivery riders and drivers amid the nation’s skyrocketing fuel prices, highlighting the hardships faced by frontline workers.

Taking to Instagram, she shared: “The people delivering our food and driving us around spend their entire day on the road. With petrol prices rising, it’s getting even harder for them. If you can, please tip them generously. It’s the least we can do.”

Her post quickly drew attention, with fans applauding her for using her platform to raise awareness about the struggles of workers who depend heavily on daily earnings and tips. Sajal’s message emphasizes empathy and fair treatment for those making daily life convenient for others.

The rising fuel prices have sparked a nationwide shock. The government recently raised petrol to 458 PKR per liter and diesel to 570 PKR per liter, despite earlier assurances by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that prices would not increase.

The sudden hike has put immense pressure on the middle class, whose purchasing power is rapidly shrinking.

Several Pakistani celebrities have voiced their frustration over the price surge. Actor Omair Rana joked that the government could have increased fuel prices by 1,000 PKR per liter but “only” raised them by 100.

Veteran actor Khaled Anam lamented, “‘Fill karao’ is a line we will never say for care tanks again.” Actress Madiha Rizvi added that while the public will not protest, they will continue standing in long petrol queues. Other stars, including Mishi Khan and Abu Aleeha, have also publicly criticized the sudden hike.
