In a video message released on Tuesday to mark the Police Martyrs Day, Pervaiz Elahi said policemen are the first line of defence as they first respond to the calls of the public.
Pervaiz Elahi said when he was Punjab chief minister he had always looked after the heirs and families of the martyrs.
“When I became the chief minister I saw all the awards and funds announced for the police martyrs during the previous government of Shehbaz Sharif were not released,” he said and added “I immediately took steps to release every penny of those funds and every award announced.”
Pervaiz Elahi said during his tenure as a chief minister his government several times increased salaries and pensions of the police force.
The government and police chiefs must look into the problems being faced by the policemen, the PML-Q leader remarked.
