Audit report exposes Rs 6.13b wheat import scam in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Following the wheat scandal of the federal government, an audit report by the Auditor General of Pakistan for the fiscal year 2024-25 has unearthed a Rs 6.13 billion wheat procurement scam in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday. 

According to the audit findings, a total of 200,000 metric tons of wheat worth Rs 6.13 billion was purchased for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which included large quantities of outdated and nearly expired stock.

Notably, the audit stated that wheat purchased as far back as 2021 and 2022 is still languishing in warehouses despite having surpassed its expiration date, raising serious concerns about mismanagement and food safety.

The report further noted that the use of substandard and aged wheat stock points to gross administrative negligence, which has resulted in a massive financial loss to the national exchequer

The audit report blamed poor administrative practices for the waste of public funds and recommended strict action against those responsible.
