Former accountability court judge Arshad Malik dies of coronavirus

Arshad Malik – the former accountability judge who was removed from the job following a probe after a press conference held by PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz – died of the coronavirus in Islamabad, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.

However, there are conflicting reports about the cause of death, as the family sources later claimed that he died after experiencing cardiac arrest and he wasn’t infected by the virus.

Arshad Malik was being treated at Shifa International Hospital for the last 25 days where he had been placed on a ventilator for a week because of his critical condition.

His funeral prayers would be offered at Mandra – a small town located on GT Road in Gujar Khan tehsil of Rawalpindi – on Saturday.

He shot to fame after he sentenced former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in the Al Azizia reference in December 2018. But a video scandal ruined his reputation followed by the termination orders issued by the Lahore High Court.

Last month, Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Waqar Ahmad Seth had passed away after contracting the coronavirus and being shifted to a private hospital in Islamabad.

Justice Waqar Seth had presided over the special court which awarded death sentence to former dictator Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf in a high treason case.
