Shah Rukh Khan shuts down ‘bolo zubaan kesari’ prompt at wedding

Shah Rukh Khan was recently seen attending a wedding in Delhi, India, but it appears his iconic Vimal advertisement trailed him to the event as well.

The ad has long since turned into a cultural meme, inspiring jokes and references even years after its release.

SRK teamed up with Ajay Devgn for the Vimal commercial, which quickly became a widely discussed pop-culture moment.

Now, it seems the superstar can’t avoid light-hearted nods to it, even during wedding appearances.

As reported by Hindustan Times, the bride asks the actor to repeat the well-known “zubaan kesari” line on stage.

The Jab Tak Hai Jaan star politely declined, defusing the situation with his trademark wit and grace while maintaining the celebratory mood.

In the video, he responds with a playful remark about brand commitments, saying:

"Ek baar business walon ke saath business kar lo, jaan nahi chhodte. Gutka wale bhi na yaar."

Despite his refusal, the bride continues, urging him to say the dialogue. Shah Rukh gently holds her hand and keeps the moment light, explaining that he usually charges for such lines. When she insists again, he softly reminds her that the occasion isn’t appropriate for it. He is heard saying: "Har baar jab karta hoon, paise leta hoon darling. Papa ko keh dena tum. Achi baat karte hain… main thodi na yahaan pe zubaan kesari karunga. Meri fan ho ya Vimal ki fan ho tum?"

One user commented, “Shahrukh went to a wedding to dance...obviously got paid for it. This girl mocked him with Zuban Kesri and Vimal gestures and asked him to do it as well. SRK looks so embarrassed but couldn't do anything.”

Another added, “Soo embarrassing #ShahRukhKhan.”

A critic remarked, “An Actor of #ShahRukhKhan's calibre should not do such cringeworthy and cheap acts for some money. He should not have promoted things like tobacco at first instance. These kinds of acts bring shame to the entire industry.”

Others questioned why a global star would perform at private functions, with one user saying, “I seriously don't understand when they think of themselves as the Superstar, not only nationally but internationally, why they dance in private parties and weddings? If that's for the money only, then I guess they must be having tonnes of money and business from which he can earn, but why do all this on stage? Losing his own self-respect as an actor.”

Another reacted, “Yes, what is this nonsense?” while someone else noted, “See how these rich people are making fun of our poor and middle-class srk.”

Some came to Khan’s defence, praising his composure. One supporter wrote, “He is certainly the Badshah and a man with a Golden heart. Even after getting teased this way, #SRK didn't even let a fraction of his courtesy and decency move away and took that sportingly. It is not that he is earning his bread by dancing in the billionaire weddings. He himself is a billionaire, but still, that success and money have not gone to his head. Wonder why you are taking it wrong and mocking.”

Another echoed the sentiment, saying, “That's under the belt treatment. Must be a lesson for the so-called celebs.” A different user added, “He is just doing his job without any arrogance.”

Shah Rukh Khan will next appear in King. The film’s first look was revealed on his birthday last month. Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures and directed by Siddharth Anand, the highly anticipated project is scheduled for release in 2026. The action-oriented ensemble cast includes Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Abhay Verma, among others.
