The Peshawar High Court on Friday ordered to postpone the second phase of Local Government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa slated to be held on March 27, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

While hearing a petition filed by the Abbottabad Civil Society, the Peshawar High Court, Circuit Bench, Abbottabad ordered the provincial government to release a new schedule of the local government polls.

The court was prayed to order for the postponement of elections in Hazara Division as the area has been hit by heavy snowfall.

According to election schedule, the contestants are required to submit their nomination papers from February 7 to 11 and their scrutiny will be done from Feb 14 to 16.

Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan changed the schedule of second phase of LG elections on the request of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz which said that voters would find it difficult to reach the polling stations in January due to severe cold in Hazara division.

According to the ECP’s schedule, in the second phase, local body elections would be held in 18 districts including Hazara and Malakand divisions.
