Netflix rolls out Akka teaser: Power battle between Radhika Apte and Keerthy Suresh set to begin
Netflix has unveiled the teaser for its upcoming series Akka, a revenge saga set in 1980s South India, featuring powerhouse performances by Radhika Apte and Keerthy Suresh.
Set in the fictional city of Pernuru, Akka dives into the underworld of a matriarchal mafia led by Keerthy Suresh’s character- a ruthless mafia queen controlling the gold trade with an iron grip. Dressed in sarees and heavy jewellery, she commands an all-female gang that enforces her rule with unwavering loyalty. However, the power dynamics take a dramatic turn when a vengeful rebel, played by Radhika Apte, sets out to dismantle the matriarchy.
“The matriarchy stands strong. A rebel plots their downfall. A girl from Pernuru seeks revenge against the Akkas,” reads the plot description.
Returning to the screen after welcoming her daughter in December, Apte takes on the role of a determined woman seeking justice.
National Award-winning actress Keerthy Suresh embraces a never-seen-before avatar, exuding authority and fear in equal measure.
Directed and written by Dharmaraj Shetty, Akka is produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films, alongside Yogendra Mogre and Akshaye Widhani of YRF Entertainment.
The series’ teaser, with its striking visuals shot across various South Indian locations, hints at a grand cinematic experience filled with power struggles and emotional depth.
Adding to the ensemble cast is veteran actress Tanvi Azmi in a pivotal but undisclosed role, further raising anticipation for the series.
